Principal Message

Dewanna Slaughter

To the Prescott Community:

I am a bonafide Oaklander, I was born and raised in Oakland, California, I attended Parker Elementary, Frick Junior High School, and Castlemont High School, the Mighty Knights. I remember watching KTVU Channel 2 News and Dennis Richmond reported Oakland Unified School District students scored in the lowest percentile on the state standardized test. I thought to myself, “I graduated from Oakland Public Schools, maybe I can help.” I telephoned my former history teacher, Jerry Wolfe, who was at the time Frick Middle School’s principal. He hired me and the rest is 25 years of educational history in Oakland Unified School District.

My entire 25 years of teaching has been exclusively at Frick Middle School, currently known as Frick United Academy of Language. I received my undergraduate degrees at San Francisco State University in Broadcast Electronic Communications Arts and Black Studies. I earned a Teaching Credential at California State East Bay, a Masters in Instructional Leadership from National University. I earned an Administrative Credential at Reach Leadership Program and Alameda County of Education. Currently, I am enrolled at Northcentral University earning a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

I believe it takes a village to raise a child. My desire as a Principal is to create a collaborative school environment where parents, guardians, family members, the community, and educators’ bond collectively to enrich each child’s academic and social emotional growth.

During my free time, I enjoy singing in the Legends of Motown Old School Tribute Show, reading, traveling, riding my Harley Davidson Road Glide, and spending time with family and friends.

With our future ahead of us and the ancestors beside us, their’s nothing we can’t do!
